BadHorse ,is it in your plans to do the Rebels Briefing room? That was the eventual plan, yes. However now that the holiday break is over, the day job leaves me with less free time for large-scale projects. I expect that it'll still happen eventually, but I have no idea what the timeline would be.

i have gotten a hold of SWS and was trying to get into the models using Frosty but it is not able to access it. i point it to the SWS .exe's but does not wish to open. SWS is from Steam Account if that is an issue.
Also; i see two _N files for the bump map
1) with _N 2) the other _N_fixed
I have figured out the _N_fixed; but not sure what the _N is for?

”N” usually denotes a “Normal Map” texture, typically a “Tangent Space” generated texture. On many models with two UV channels the Normal Map is on a different UV channel with different UV coordinates from the Diffuse texture channel. The “fixed” maps are generated to allow them to be applied to the same UV channel as the diffuse textures so that all the UV coordinates on the model use a single UV channel. This is great for importing the models into applications that can’t handle more than one set of UV coordinates per model.

Interesting so where would Y-Wing normal (not fixed) be used for? I am not seeing where they effecting the model?

It should not Effect the Model, it should Effect the Details and Size of the Normal Maps. This is used in several Games.

Interesting so where would Y-Wing normal (not fixed) be used for? I am not seeing where they effecting the model? The model uses UV channel 1 for the "_N" Normal map textures and UV channel 2 for the Diffuse textures. The "fixed" textures were re-baked so that they could be applied to the same UV map channel as the diffuse textures otherwise the Normal maps and Diffuse maps would not line up. If you are using a program that CANNOT handle models with multiple UV sets then the "fixed" textures can be used in place of the original "_N" textures. If your software CAN handle multiple UV sets then you can use the original "_N" textures as they are and discard the "fixed" textures. You do not need both sets of textures, just use the set that works best for your needs.

i am using 3ds max 2021.3 and do see the channels and able to use / or switch to the other channel. question: do you have a model that i can pull up is see how _N would work or a page that shows example?

i am using 3ds max 2021.3 and do see the channels and able to use / or switch to the other channel. question: do you have a model that i can pull up is see how _N would work or a page that shows example? If you're using Max it's pretty simple but you'll need to know how to create and assign materials and be familiar with using the material editor. Create a new material for each model group, in this case the "wings", "body", "glass", and "R2". Max already has some basic material shaders built-in that you can use but this is up to your personal preference. Once you have a material set up you can assign textures to that specific material, this is where the UV channels come into use. I'll use the "wings" model group for this example along with a "standard/default" material. Material Editor | 3DS Max 2021 Help. When viewing/editing the material in the Material Editor you can assign a diffuse map (T_Veh_Reb_Sieg_YWing_Wings_C.tga) to the diffuse map slot and select UV channel 2. This means the diffuse texture will only be applied to the UV coordinates for UV set 2. Under the same material you'll also see a slot for a Normal/Bump map, this is where you assign the normal map (T_Veh_Reb_Sieg_YWing_Wings_N.tga) and select UV channel 1. This means the normal texture will only be applied to the UV coordinates for UV set 1. Now assign the newly created "wing material" to its respective model group (wing). Now the model's wings and engine nacelles will render with both UV channels combined.

What is being used to access SWS at the moment? A private tool that only a couple of us have; we've been asked not to share it. Hopefully Frosty will be updated at some point in the future.

Rancor022 , Where did you get that private tool, and how do I get it? I promise not to share it, but I really want to try it out before the next version of Frosty is released (if ever). Please answer through PM, so as to make sure it doesn't leak.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to second this. Yes the tool is private. Yes I would like a copy myself, but it has only been given to a few people and the creator has asked that it not be distributed. Please respect that. I would love to rip the models myself, but in the grand scheme, Rancor022 is really doing the hard work and we get to benefit from it. So please, don't ask him again for the tool.

So what would it take for it to be released to the public? At least 2 people want it (including me and slagothor), so I'm hoping that it gets released within the next few months, if it ever happens.

The Frosty tool being discussed above is a separate development branch made to work with Star Wars Squadrons but is not publicly available yet. For those reading this thread and wondering, Frosty v1.0.5.9 has been released publicly but it currently doesn't support Star Wars Squadrons: frostytoolsuite.com/news.html

Yeah the Frosty Alpha has leaked online (that was only ever on Patreon) this one is really only good for modders since it allows for mesh importing....etc. Anyways here is the tools it's been long enough and it doesn't seem like Frosty will ever be publicly updated to support this game (that's why it was being held onto for this long hoping they'd release their own update) But as for the Squadrons version here are 2 versions of them one that works www.mediafire.com/file/r7erywa0sztabzf/FrostyEditor_v1.0.5.9_Alpha_20200116_SWS.rar/file but doesn't really support composite meshes very well and uses the Frosty Alpha as a base. With this version you will need to make a copy of the SWS exe and name it BFV.exe then edit the game path inside the FrostyEditor BFV.ini to the path of your own game, then start up the FrostyEditor2.exe it will tell you the SDK is out of date but it's not just hit the X and Frosty will load. Then this one that works with the public version of Frosty 1.0.59 and supports composite meshes better but isn't as stable or better www.mediafire.com/file/0iy1tiq3j4e5kln/SWSPatcher.zip/file this one is pretty straight forward.
