And here's one I did a few years ago, that somehow made it into the Washington Post -- no seriously. I actually ended up exchanging some messages on FB with a few of the airmen at MacDill AFB that flies these tankers. They told me that they made a plaque of this pic for one of their buddies who was retiring who was also a huge Star Wars nerd. The whole crew signed it for him. That made my day.

I went back and resembled the Lucrehulk droid control battleship using the script. The last few times I did this there were some minor errors and omissions, and I just don't know how to leave well enough alone. It's an 8K render (very zoom-y) so make sure you're on WiFi and not using mobile data before you click on it.

Despite having just recently shared a pic of this same ship, I've been tweaking the shaders and adding texture data from the other UV channels to dirty it up a little. Again rendered at 8K.

The Imperial Cruiser rendered at 8k (sure hope you're on WiFi).

That's not specularity, that's illumination. Those are windows.

That's not specularity, that's illumination. Those are windows. yes. those are illuminated windows and some of the sun lamp reflection. it's a 'specular' result tho. hence why dim the specular to not include those. or you mean to, remove the light mesh emission? sure. that might work too. i know in blender it's very hard to get mesh lights to shine soft, without bumping their ray count.

I don't see what's wrong. Those lights are visible in the actual film.

BadHorse, I randomly came across your post on r/StarWars while browsing Reddit, as I usually do in the morning. Had no idea that was your post until I glanced at your username and thought it sounded familiar. I found that 5-panel wall art on Amazon, and found that multiple sellers are selling it, not just one. It looks like pretty much ALL of the wall art being sold by those individuals are just printings of other peoples' renders, a few I recognized from DeviantArt from many, many years ago. Probably some shady Chinese company.

It looks like pretty much ALL of the wall art being sold by those individuals are just printings of other peoples' renders, a few I recognized from DeviantArt from many, many years ago. Probably some shady Chinese company. That post got a lot of traction on Reddit, not all of it friendly, but that's the internet for ya. Honestly though if I'd have known it was going to be seen by so many, I would have spent more time on the original post. I chose my words poorly and I can see where it could have been interpreted that I felt I deserved payment, which couldn't be further from the truth. I don't own the properties depicted, and protection under “Fair Use” dries up pretty quickly when you try and charge for the work. I've already got a day job and I'm perfectly happy continuing to render as a hobby. I don't expect or deserve compensation, but the sellers of the wall art deserve it far less. Sadly, there are many talented and hard-working artists out there who do deserve to get paid for their work who are definitely getting robbed by these shady operations. I was really more just trying to raise awareness amongst the potential customer base for such wall art in the hopes that in the future they'll be more likely to do a Google reverse image search to identify the real artist before hitting the 'buy' button. One can hope. In the meantime, I'm going to just keep honing my rendering skills and trying to come up with cool wallpaper ideas.

Thanks, and yes they are. What is it you use to render? And would you be willing to post here a very quick video of you doing a scene from the ground up? I use KeyShot 9 for scene and shader setup along with final render. I probably won't do a video -- not really my thing. Not to mention, each scene is way different than anything previous, and I don't always know where I'm going until I get there. Doesn't make for great tutorial. I'm usually pretty open to answering questions though.

Could renders as good as these be done in Blender or are KeyShot and 3ds Max a must for that kind of quality?
